No stage for genocide

No to the Eurovision Song Contest as a propaganda show

Nakba Day: Friday, May 15 th 2026 | 4.00 pm | Maria-Theresien-Platz | 1010 Vienna

We are countering the Eurovision Song Contest’s propaganda spectacle with an alternative

POLITICAL EVENT FEATURING MUSIC

On Nakba Day, international bands, musicians and activists will sing and perform in support of the Palestinians’ freedom and right to self-determination.

Every day, Palestinians are killed in the Gaza Strip, vital aid supplies are withheld amid the destruction, and renowned aid organizations are banned. At the same time, the violence of the occupiers in the West Bank and Jerusalem is escalating. Nevertheless, Israel is being offered a stage in the Song Contest as if there were no starvation, no ethnic cleansing, no occupation.

Art ist resistance

The Eurovision Song Contest thus becomes part of a propaganda apparatus through which genocide is normalized. Art and culture are not apolitical – they can also serve resistance. Just as the international boycott movement contributed to the fall of apartheid in South Africa, today there is a need for a boycott of Israel – including in the arts.

Five European countries – Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, Iceland, and the Netherlands – are already boycotting the Song Contest. ESC trophies are being returned in protest. This demonstrates the effectiveness of civil courage.

While the ESC excluded Russia from the competition, international law apparently does not count in Israel’s case.

We will not simply let this stand.

On May 15, the day commemorating the ethnic cleansing of Palestine (Nakba), which in 1948 led to the violent displacement of 750,000 Palestinians, our solidarity event will take place. With loud voices, we are bringing an alternative to the stage. International artists and activists are coming together to stand up for justice and to commemorate the Nakba.

The Song-Protest demonstrates: culture does not have to serve propaganda, but can contribute to resistance against systematic injustice.

Exclude Israel from the Song Contest! No Stage for genocide!

Roger Waters

Roger Waters

Musician, Visionary, Unwavering Activist

„The key is equal human rights.“

Roger Waters is far more than the legendary co-founder of Pink Floyd. He is an artist who uses the power of music to spread truth, justice, and compassion. From the iconic concept albums The Wall and The Dark Side of the Moon to his powerful solo performances, Waters combines artistic brilliance with a deep sense of social responsibility.

But he is more than a musician: Waters is a tireless activist, advocating worldwide for peace, human rights, and social justice. With humor, courage, and a clear voice, he speaks out where others remain silent, reminding us that art and activism together can change the world.

We are proud that Roger Waters is supporting our event „no stage for genocide“. His commitment shows that music does more than entertain – it inspires people to stand up and take action, and that is exactly what we show at this event.

With the genocide in Palestine continuing by other means, and hidden from public view by the US-Israeli illegal bombing of Iran, I want to lend my full support to Palästina Solidarität Österreich, the Vienna-based NGO dedicated to advocating for Palestinian rights.

This principled organisation is planning an urgent event on 15th May (Nakba Day), entitled NO STAGE FOR GENOCIDE to oppose the complicity of the Eurovision Song Contest in whitewashing the Palestinian people’s genocide. Currently, they are working to organise a counter-concert, a worthy task that the Viennese authorities are, sadly and outrageously, trying to undermine. I trust that Palästina Solidarität Österreich will succeed in making the 15th May memorable, a day to remember as pivotal in helping Vienna reclaim its soul.

As I keep telling friends and foes, if this were 1938, the morning after Kristallnacht, we would all have one task: to protect Jewish life from the Nazis. Today, we have a duty to protect Palestinian life from Israel. Palästina Solidarität Österreich are doing precisely that in Austria. They have my full support.

“The genocide in Gaza is an irreversible turning point. The world is watching this crime in real time – silent and complicit in the mass murder of Palestinians in Gaza, in the destruction of their present, their past, and their future.”

“The genocide continues before the eyes of the world. The complicity of the Eurovision organizers in allowing the whitewashing of this violence through Israel’s participation is deeply shameful.

In response, countries like Spain have decided to withdraw from the contest in protest, joining an increasingly aware European citizenry that is raising its voice to say: “Not in our name.” The people of Europe refuse to be complicit in the normalization of barbarity.

I want to express my full support for the initiative of Palästina Solidarität Österreich, which is organizing an alternative solidarity event to commemorate the Nakba. You represent the best face of Europe: the one that defends international solidarity and human rights.

That is why we say it loud and clear, together: No Stage for Genocide!”

The impunity of the genocide committed by Israel and the USA, with the complicity of Europe, against the Palestinian people signifies the end of the possibility of achieving a human society based on peace and justice. Israel’s participation in Eurovision in this context forms part of the genocide, in the form of propaganda and cover-up.
For this reason, I support the initiative No Stage for Genocide.

Israel has become a genocidal, terrorist, and aggressor state.
It’s the only country that haven’t respected any United Nations resolution, not even the one that create their state.

Currently, it is aggressing against five neighboring countries. And it continues commiting genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the annexation and ethnic cleansing of all Palestinians in the West Bank.

We welcome the Song Protest 2026. European youth knows that culture must defend human rights, culture must denounce crimes against humanity, and that culture should never whitewashing genocidal and international criminals.

As Israel is doing at Eurovision, which has even been allowed for years to manipulate online voting to favor a fraudulent result in its favor.

Spain was the first country to denounce Israel’s presence in Eurovision and demand its exclusion as long as it continues to be a genocidal and terrorist state.

We are pleased that five EU countries have now withdrawn from Eurovision. We fully suport young people push for the Song Protest 2026 and our greetings to all those who fight for a free Palestine and against genocide commited by Israel.

Miguel Rios

Miguel Rios

Artist, composer, musician

In my long artistic career, for me, my music has been much more than a succession of musical notes set to rock and roll rhythms. I have intended for my music to humbly serve to bring people together, to warm their souls. I have always believed that music and art should be at the service of humanity. Not only to help us improve as a species, but also to help get through hard times and to brighten the good ones.

I have always tried to imbue my songs with a social commentary, whether it was a denunciation of wars or the struggle for a fairer world, always trying to focus on the hope that if we unite and really work together, another world is absolutely possible. A world where we truly are all brothers and sisters.

That is the reason why I support the campaign to demand Israel’s non-participation in Eurovision, because music should not cover up a genocide, and Israel is committing one right before our eyes. The only genocide broadcast live by the victims themselves: the Palestinian people. No. Not in my name.

Eurovision 2026 in Vienna

A non-European state has been invited: an apartheid state, a state that has been committing genocide against the people of Gaza for more than two years, a state that has been waging an illegal war of aggression against Iran for over a month… and the Austrian government has no problem with this.

In 1979, Israel was invited to the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time, in Brussels. Belgian activists reacted immediately: they organized a Contr’Eurovision Festival, to which a Palestinian singer-songwriter was invited as the first guest: Mustafa al-Kurd, who was celebrated there as the “Voice of Palestine,” alongside left-wing singer-songwriters from across Europe. José Afonso from Portugal deserves special mention. He became a friend of Mustafa. Sadly, both are no longer with us.

The Contr’Eurovision Festival released two albums featuring all the songs performed by the participating artists, all accompanied by interviews.

From Mustafa al-Kurd we read:In my songs, I do not only speak to Arab peoples, who know what is happening in Palestine. I also speak to Israeli workers, so that they understand that they too are oppressed.

For me, music is a form of struggle, different from political or military struggle. Music is a weapon with one great advantage: it helps people understand why other peoples are oppressed, and above all, by whom they are oppressed.”

In Brussels, Mustafa al-Kurd sang this song for the schoolgirl Muntaha, who was run over by an Israeli tank during a demonstration in Jenin:

“During an attack by the Zionist invasion forces
Against our people in the West Bank
In Jenin
The schoolgirl Muntaha Hurani was killed
The reports said
Muntaha was crushed under the tracks
Of the advancing invasion tanks
Muntaha was seventeen years old
This is the song about Muntaha
She died a martyr’s death
And lives on
A new school in Jenin
Will bear her name
Muntaha lives on
Until the Palestinians return
As free people in their land”

(Poem: Samih al-Qassem, musical adaptation and performance: Mustafa al-Kurd)

Art must have a compass — a humanitarian, ethical compass. It must not be used as a tool of distraction, deception, or the normalization of crime, nor to launder the bloodied hands of criminals. Art is a stance of objection in pursuit of meaning. Without that, it is simply a noise.

Inviting a genocidal apartheid state to participate in Eurovision is adding insult to injury. This comes at a time when most European countries are complicit in the genocide against the Palestinian people, either by being silent or by providing active military, financial, and political assistance.  And sometimes complicity is simply the “indifference”, turning away from the most documented   genocide in human history, dismissing the catastrophe unfolding before our eyes as though it is none of our concern. Choosing who is worthy of their empathy and whose pain is deemed “irrelevant.” A genocide carried out by the hands of IOF soldiers and veterans, the only candidates this apartheid state has to offer.

Art cannot exist in a vacuum. It is a living interaction of real struggle, pain, and beauty. Inviting Israel to participate is a political statement in itself — one that confirms we have learned absolutely nothing from Europe’s own brutal history.

Therefore, I urge everyone to participate in this event and raise their voice against the participation of Israel in Eurovision

The ethnic cleansing that Zionism has been carrying out in Palestine for decades has intensified brutally in the last three years.
Israel has been accused of imposing an illegal occupation on the Palestinian people, of implementing a system of apartheid, and more recently, of carrying out the worst crime against humanity: genocide.
Israel represents the interests of big capital and the large multinational corporations involved in war, finance, and technology. Essentially, it is a US military base in the heart of the Middle East, and not only the US, but also many European governments are directly responsible for this Zionist colonial project. But the people are not. We, the people, have stood with the oppressed who resist with dignity and legitimacy, and we will continue to stand with them, demanding the isolation of the genocidal regime, demanding Israel’s expulsion from Eurovision, and demanding freedom for Palestine.

I am taking part in the song protest because, as a cultural worker, it is my duty to be loud. While human rights are being violated in the most brutal ways every day in the Gaza Strip, polished television productions pretend that the world is fine. I am grateful that the song protest is making a statement for unity and solidarity precisely where the ESC is failing.

For me, silence is no longer an option, and it shouldn’t be for anyone else.

Art cannot exist in isolation from reality. It either chooses comfort or it chooses to confront what is happening in the world.

I believe in the power of collective voices — across borders — to resist indifference and to name injustice. Standing in solidarity with Palestine is not symbolic.
It is a conscious refusal to normalize violence, dispossession, and the erasure of human life.

My heart aches; the suffering of the Palestinian people affects me deeply. The brutal genocide being carried out by the murderous states of Israel and the USA must stop. We, the citizens, demand an end to this barbarity and that they be held accountable for their crimes. Israel must not participate in a music festival created to reinforce unity between countries, thereby whitewashing its actions. This is total impunity. My full support goes to the platform Palestine Solidarity Austria.

The government in Austria is complicit in this through its support for Israel,” Sami Ayad has repeatedly criticized. Through Israel’s participation in the ESC, Austria is once again showing its support for genocide and is actively contributing to whitewashing it!
